  • Torfaen Male Voice Choir Concert 2023

The evening of the 25th February 2023 saw an amazing, almost sold out concert given by the wonderful gentlemen of the Torfaen Male Voice Choir.

They visited us last year and their reputation clearly went ahead of them as they returned and tickets were increasingly difficult to get! But a packed house listed to a wonderful program of music from around the world and were treated to several solos and a piano recital.

We’re planning for the choir to be back with us for St. David’s day next year and will let you have the dates as soon as we have them, but you’ll have to book early to make sure you get a ticket!

An enormous thank you goes to the choir from all at St. Anselm for a wonderful evening and for your great help in fundraising for the work of the parish – thank you!

  • The Angelus & Regina Coeli

Each day we are called to pause and to reflect on the working of Jesus in our lives. We do this through our daily pattern of worship – Morning and Evening Prayer and the Angelus.

The Angelus Bell is rung three times a day across Hayes – at 9am, midday and at 6pm. When it is rung we sing the Angelus (or the Regina Coeli during Eastertide). The best time to see and hear us singing the Angelus is at the start of Evening Prayer at 6pm each day. You can watch and listen via our live stream and you can join in wherever you are whenever you hear the bell.

    The Angelus

To be rung and/or said/sung at morning, noon and evening; three rings during each ‘Hail Mary’ and nine rings during the prayer.

V/.The Angel of the Lord brought tidings to Mary.
R/.And she conceived by the Holy Ghost.
3 rings as the Hail Mary is said
V/Hail Mary, full of grace; the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
R/. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

V/.Behold the handmaid of the Lord.
R/.Be it unto me according to thy word.
Amen.

V/.And the Word was made flesh.
    R/.And dwelt among us.
Amen.

V/.Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
R/.That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
9 rings as the prayer is said
Pour forth we beseech thee, O Lord, thy grace into our hearts: that as we have known the Incarnation of thy Son Jesus Christ by the message of an Angel, so by His Cross and Passion we may be brought to the glory of His Resurrection. Through the same Christ the Lord.
    R/. Amen.

    Regina Coeli

To be rung and/or said/sung in place of the Angelus during Eastertide, with nine rings during the anthem and nine during the prayer.

     9 rings during the anthem
Joy to thee, O Queen of Heaven, alleluia.
He whom thou wast meet to bear, alleluia.
As he promised, hath arisen, alleluia.
Pour for us to him thy prayer, alleluia.

V/.Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia.
R/.For the Lord has risen indeed, alleluia.
9 rings as the prayer is said
O God, by the Resurrection of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, you have brought joy to the whole world: grant that, by the help of his mother, the Virgin Mary, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life; through Christ the Lord.
    R/.Amen.

  • An Act of Remembrance

This year our act of remembrance takes place in very unusual circumstances. Whilst we have not been able to meet together and worship together we nevertheless – and perhaps more importantly than ever – remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in war for our freedom.

The Act of Remembrance was filmed on the 5th November at St. Anselm’s Church, Hayes. The Mayor of Hillingdon – Cllr Teji Barnes – laid a wreath at the altar on behalf of the people of Hayes. The service will be available to watch on Sunday from 10:45am – after our live-streamed Parish Mass.

The service starts with they hymn Who Will True Valour See (Archer) – the lyrics are below if you would like to sing along. It ends with the Anthem I Give To You A New Commandment (Nardone) both recorded by as part of the partnership between the Church of England with St. Martin-in-the-Fields and the Royal School of Church Music.

    WHO WOULD TRUE VALOUR SEE
    John Bunyan (1628-1688)

    Who would true valour see
    Let him come hither
    One here will constant be
    Come wind, come weather
    There’s no discouragement
    Shall make him once relent
His first avowed intent to be a pilgrim

Whoso beset him ’round With dismal stories
    Who but themselves confound
    His strength the more is
    No lion can him fright
    He’ll with a giant fight
But he will have a right to be a pilgrim.

    Hobgoblin nor foul fiend
    Can daunt his spirit
He knows he at the end
    Shall life inherit
    Then fancies flee away
He’ll fear not what men say
He’ll labour night and day to be a pilgrim

    (repeat first verse)

  • All Saints

Bishop Jonathan has produced (with The Society and Church Union) a wonderful video talking about All Saints – and why it is central to our understanding of living a full Christian life.

Over the last months The Society and Church Union have produced a wide range of wonderful resources to help you during an extended period of praying at home and in many cases alone. They are produced to encourage you to recall that you never pray alone.

The Saints of God surround and encourage you in the highs and lows of life. They run the great race with us and will always pray for us – reach out and ask.
